Kandersteg
The Winter weekend usually takes place in Kandersteg. To avoid disappointments the pack needs to make a reservation well in advance (i.e. as soon as the last one has finished), as the centre is very popular over the winter period. You should keep this weekend free and come along as the boys have a great time.
There are a number of awards and badges that can be undertaken at the centre as well as a number of winter activities that can be organised. Plan in advance what you’d like to do and the den leaders can purchase the badges/patches from the Programme office for the boys at the end of the weekend..
The pack usually needs volunteers to organise the bookings, room allocations, meals etc, so please offer your services.
Tips and Hints:
If you want pack lunches these can be organised through the catering team. These have to be booked in advance so if you want one for Saturday make sure you contact the centre before you get there on Friday.
You are in the mountains and the weather can be very changeable. bring warm clothes and at least 1 change. (there is a laundry where clothes can be washed and dried). In 2006 the temperature during the weekend was between -10 and -15, whereas in 2007 it was between 5 and 15 degrees.
Bring a change of shoes/slippers for use in the chalet.
The chalet has a games/entertainment room now which has a table football (1fr for 9 balls), a library and a television with DVD / Video player. This room is very popular with the cubs so if you can’t find your son (or daughter) this is a good place to look.
The Kandersteg Scout Centre has a campsite and several thousand m2 of land. In summer there are many activities that can be done here as well and there will be lots of other Scouts to make friends with. Why not organise or suggest to your den leader that you spend a weekend camping here. (If you do come, bring a hammer and expect to bend some tent pegs as the ground the campsite was built on was created from the rocks extracted from the Lotschberg railway tunnel, and as a result isn’t particularily giving. (also don’t pitch your tent in a depression, if it rains you’ll find yourself sleeping in a pond.
